Bormio – a refreshingly different ski resort in Italy

Little known Bormio is starting to make waves in the ski world and is a ski resort in Italy which demands to be heard. This quaint spa town since Roman times offers a lot of charm; its mediaeval town centre is full of history and atmosphere which you can discover whilst walking through the narrow cobbled streets. Kuèrc Square with its Tower of the Hours, the Church of Santi Gervasio e Protasio all add to a traditional ski experience.

The resort is also lively on the other side and offers a variety of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and a cinema. It has broad appeal and whether you are in a group of friends, a family, a couple looking for a romantic ski getaway, Bormio has something for everyone.

Skiing

Bormio is part of the Alta Valtellina ski area and therefore has access to over 112km of ski slopes including its own 39km of piste. The Bormio ski pass gives access to other popular ski resorts such as Livigno and Santa Caterina.

Bormio itself runs a ski area with 50 km of slopes served by great lifts after a recent modernisation programme. A regular venue for the skiing World Cup, the annual downhill on the Stelvio slope and the amazing vertical drop are all good advertisements for Bormio.

Bormio is able to satisfy both the demanding skier with competitive level slopes and the intermediates and beginners. If snow conditions in Italy are poor, the modern snow making system guarantees snow on 90% of the slopes.  There is also a fantastic snowpark, ideal for freeskiers and snowboarders at 600 meters long with a 200 meters drop.

From January every Thursday, the resort also hosts night time skiing; you can ski down on the World Cup track and enjoy the beautiful views of the town by night!
